Over 65% of Americans Support Military Aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan

In today's rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, the importance of supporting democratic allies has never been more apparent. Recent polls have shed light on a striking statistic: over 65% of Americans express strong support for providing military aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. This resounding endorsement reflects a commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring the security of nations facing threats from authoritarian regimes.

The Reagan Doctrine, a foreign policy principle articulated by President Ronald Reagan, emphasizes standing by democratic allies and providing assistance to those fighting against oppressive forces. In a recent episode of the Peace Through Strength podcast, host Joy Votrobek and American Security Council Foundation Sr. Fellow Alan Dowd explored the relevance of the Reagan Doctrine in today's context. They discussed how polls indicate robust American support for military aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, underscoring the enduring significance of defending democracies.

Despite fatigue from past conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans recognize the importance of bolstering nations striving to maintain their freedom in the face of aggression. Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan each face unique challenges, from ongoing conflicts to territorial threats. Yet, their commitment to democracy resonates with the American people, who stand ready to assist in their defense. The poll results revealed a noteworthy trend: when framed within the context of the Reagan Doctrine, support for military aid increases even further. This suggests that Americans are not only willing to provide assistance but also understand the broader principles at stake. The Reagan Doctrine's emphasis on supporting democratic allies aligns with the values cherished by many Americans, reinforcing the notion that defending freedom abroad is essential to safeguarding peace and security at home. While some may argue for focusing solely on internal challenges, the interconnected nature of global affairs necessitates a multifaceted approach. Maintaining a strong defense and supporting democratic allies are not mutually exclusive; rather, they are complementary strategies that contribute to national security and stability.

President Reagan's words resonate powerfully in today's context: "No weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women." By providing military aid to nations defending their freedom, the United States reinforces its commitment to democratic principles and strengthens alliances crucial for preserving peace and prosperity.

The overwhelming support for military aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan reflects a deep-seated belief in the importance of defending democracies and upholding shared values. As the world faces evolving threats, American solidarity with its allies remains steadfast. By embracing the principles of the Reagan Doctrine and standing firm in support of freedom-loving nations, the United States reaffirms its role as a global leader committed to peace through strength.
